November 2012

Well everyone, it is now November and you are officially half way through the semester. I am also officially done as of November 9th as I will be starting my maternity leave. I want to apologize for having to leave part-way through the courses, but know you understand I have good reason! :) I am leaving you in good hands and want to wish you all the very best for the rest of the school year. Do your best, have fun, and take care. I hope to see all of you next year when I'm back! Til then...

Fall Has Begun

Well everyone, fall is now upon us and you are now a full month into your new semester. Report cards and parent-teacher conferences aren't far away, so ensure that you are working hard and staying on top of your studies to get, and better yet, keep your marks up. Remember to always do your best, noting that your best may not be the same as someone else's. That is ok! Don't worry about others. Worry about yourself and do the best that YOU can. So long as you are putting in your best effort, no one can ask any more of you. Strive to better yourself and compete only with yourself! (That is my motivational comment of the month!).

Please be sure to be aware of the important school dates I've listed on the side of my blog, and be sure to check your course websites at least once a week!

I hope you have a great month!

Welcome back everybody! It's that time of year again! I hope you're all well rested and ready to start a new semester.
I have created this blog as way to stay better connected with both you and your parents. This is my main website where I'll post general information and reminders, about important dates and events at school. On the right hand side you'll find links to each of my individual courses. I'll do my best to update these each week with the topics we'll be studying. I'll also include study tips for upcoming quizzes/tests, reminders about homework and assignments, information about projects, due dates and more. If you have any questions or concerns about assignments or tests, please feel free to email me at anytime.

I look forward to teaching all of you and think it's going to be a great semester!

June 11 - 19th

Well Everyone,

I think this is my last weekly post for the year! It has been a full and busy year and I have really enjoyed teaching you all very much! I hope you are all successful in passing your courses this year. Please be sure to get any missed work into me by Monday June 11th (my mark cut off day) and study hard for any finals you might have. Also, please pay attention to the important dates coming up this week and the next, as seen on the left-side of my blog here. With all the end-of-year festivities, there is a lot going on.
I wish you all a safe and wonderful summer vacation and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!

Take care,
-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 3 June 2012

June 4 - 8th

Hi Everyone,

So it is June and the official countdown to classes before over for the year has officially begun! There are only 12 days of classes left before final exams start. There are a few schedule changes happening this week for the whole school due to Gr.12 Commencements, not to mention many events coming up, like the Yearbook BBQ and early dismissal in the near future. Before you know it the last day will be here so if you need to boost your class mark, get your missing work in to me by or before Monday June 11th. That is my mark cut off day for late work so that I can get report card marks finalized and prepared in time. It is not fair to me to hand in all your missing work from earlier in the semester on the day before report cards are due and expect me to mark them in addition to all the recent work- especially when you've had 3+ months of reminders to get caught up!

Stay tuned for more updates soon and listen for daily announcements over the PA system.

Have a great week!

Friday 25 May 2012

May 28 - June 1st

Hi Everyone,

So you've lucked out and have yet another long weekend and thus, 4-day week! Monday is a non-instructional day so there will not be any classes. This Friday will mark the first day of June and thus, the last month of classes!!! There are lot's of a year end activities going on, commencements fast-approaching, grad banquet tickets to buy, etc.....as well as getting any missing work in! The countdown is on!!! Please check the school website for important dates on final exams, summer school info, grad, etc. and please check your course websites for important information on the coming week.

Don't forget....my Entrepreneurship student-companies are still selling their Matheson Evolution shirts for one more week and the other company is holding their dodgeball tournament on Tuesday May 29th at lunch in the small gym! Come on out to watch your friends play!

Have a great long weekend and see you in class!
-Ms.Sundin

Monday 21 May 2012

May 22 - 26th

Hello There and Welcome Back after the Long weekend! I hope you all had a great 3 days off. This coming week is a 4 day week as a result of Monday's holiday, and next Monday is a regularly scheduled non-instructional day, which means another long weekend coming up. While I know it is nice to relax on the weekend, the end of the school year is fast approaching so be sure to make good use of this extra time if you need to get caught up on missing assignments. Remember, you want to get your in-class mark as high as possible before you have any final exams.
Please check your class website for information on the weekend ahead!
Have a great week!

Sunday 13 May 2012

May 14 - 18th

Hi Everyone,
Well, it looks like Mother Nature has finally thrown us a bone! It is sunny and warm and almost feels like summer. And we are not far off! Like I reminded you last week, I will say again, that this semester is quickly coming to an end, so you need to ensure you get caught up on any missing work, and work extra hard to study and get your grade as high as possible before it is too late! Also, just a quick reminder that this week is a regular 5-day week....but Monday, May 21st there will not be any classes.  It is Victoria Day! That means you have a a long weekend to do your homework! ;) ;) Be sure to check your class website for news on the coming week!

Have a great week! See you in class!

-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 6 May 2012

May 7-12th

Hi Everyone,

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is the semester and school year are fast approaching an end! The bad news though, is that many of you still have not caught up on missing assignments from the first term, and are now running out of time to get your mark up! I will post updated marks in class next week so that you can see where you are at and what assignments, if any, you are missing. However, if you received an attachment with your report card, or an "I" (Incomplete), you already know what you are missing from before! Please get caught up on missing work and boost your grade before it is too late.
As usual, please check your course website for information on the upcoming week.
-Ms.Sundin

Friday 27 April 2012

April 30 - May 4th

Hi Everyone,

So report cards have now come and gone. Hopefully you are happy with your report card grades, and if not, that you will take the necessary steps to improve your grade before the end of the semester. Remember, it is not too late. Oftentimes just handing in a few missing assignments can make all the difference. If you have many, prioritize and work to complete the bigger assignments (worth the most marks) first.

Just a quick reminder that this coming week is a 4-day week, with Friday being a non-instructional/Pro-D day.

Please check your course websites for details in your classes for the coming week.

Have a great week!

-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 22 April 2012

April 23-27th

Hi Everyone,
So this is the big week....REPORT CARDS...finally!! (Dun dun dun). Hopefully all of you took the marks cut off day seriously and got your missing assignments in on time. If you did not, rest assured, if you do get it into me before June, it will be on the next report card. However, this is not a good strategy! The sooner the better, because as I keep saying, more work will just keep coming your way. If you receive an "I" (Incomplete aka below 50% grade), as well as if you are missing too many assignments that is affecting your overall standing, you can expect to receive a print out attached to your report card detailing all of your assignments. I've highlighted what is missing. As this report card is a mid-term progress report, you will work to improve your marks and stay on top of your assignments so that you can all be successful!

Check your course website for information on the upcoming week.

Have a great week :)
-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 15 April 2012

April 16 - 20th

Hello Everyone,

As you know, next week report cards will be issued, which means that I will have to have everything marked and entered into the system this week. Therefore my marks cut off is MONDAY APRIL 16th- NO EXCEPTIONS. Originally I had said my cut off day was Friday the 13th, but I extended it to Monday to give you the weekend. Most of the assignments missing were from long, long ago, so there should be no excuse for not having them done by now...especially when you had two weeks over spring break and 4 days over Easter to catch up as well!
However, rest assured that anything that does not make this report card, will go on the next report card, so all is not lost.
Please check your course websites for details on what we will be doing in class.

Have a great week :)
-Ms.Sundin

Monday 9 April 2012

April 10-13

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful long, Easter weekend. This week is only a 4-day week, so of course, there is a lot to get down in less time! Provincial Exam rewrites are happening in case this might apply to you. Please be sure to check your course websites so you know what is due and what you can expect to be doing this week!

Have a great week!

-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 1 April 2012

April 2 - 5

Hi Everyone,

Well we've only just come back from spring break and already we have another long weekend to look forward to. Thanks to the Easter Holiday there won't be any classes held Friday April 6th or Monday April 9th. That means two 4-day school weeks coming up. However, in losing those extra days it means we have more work to make up for so please be sure to check your course websites and if you are someone who has missing work to complete, take advantage of the long weekend to get caught up!!!

Have a great week and Happy Easter if you celebrate it!
 -Ms.Sundin

Sunday 25 March 2012

March 26 - 30

Welcome Back Everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing spring break! It's hard to believe it is the end of March already. Since it has been two-weeks, please be sure to check your course websites to refresh your memories on what we were doing before we the break and to prepare for what is to come.

Have a great week back!

-Ms.Sundin

Saturday 3 March 2012

March 5-9

As you are well aware, we, the teachers, are withdrawing services for up to 3 days this coming week  beginning Monday March 5th and running likely up to and including Wednesday March 7th. We are doing this to stand up for what we believe is important...a fair negotiated deal that benefits the entire public education system. I will say no more here other than I am sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this no doubt will cause to some of your parents, but hope that everyone recognizes that we are standing up for our students, and the greater good of the public education system in British Columbia!

Classes will resume on Thursday March 8 and be held Friday March 9th before spring break. Please remember to check your course website prior to Thursday to know what we will be doing in class and what assignments/projects are due.

Thank you.I look forward to seeing you back in class on Thursday, if not sooner.
-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 26 February 2012

There are only 2 weeks now until Spring Break. You should be well into your courses now with a number of assignments due. Be sure to check your course websites for information/reminders and due dates!

Feb.20-Feb.24

Hi Everyone,

This week the two main activities happening at LAM are course selection for the Gr.9 students, and "Girl's Night In"- an evening of events just for the girls this Friday February 24th! Be sure to check your course websites for information on the coming week's assignments and lessons.

Have a great week!

Sunday 12 February 2012

Feb.13 - 17th

Hi Everyone,
I hope you had a great 3-day weekend and are well rested for the week! I had a great Pro-D day on Friday. I went to a Dance Convention , which was a lot of fun, although I'm really paying for it now! My muscles are reminding me that I'm not 16 years old anymore! (Enjoy your youth! lol)
The major events happening this week are of course Valentine's Day on Tuesday, and Course Selection on Thursday! Be sure to be in class that day, as the counsellors will be coming around to help you.
Please check your course website for information on what I have planned this week.
Have a great week and Happy Valentine's Day!

Saturday 4 February 2012

Feb.6- 10th

Well everybody, we survived the first week of the new semester, which is always the hardest. Now you should hopefully be settled into your new classes.

Don't forget that this coming Friday February 10th is a Pro-D day, so there will be no classes that day. Also note that Course Selection is not far away, so it would be a good idea to consult the Course Selection Guide on the school's website to start thinking about what classes you will take next year. Keep an eye out for "Dance 10", a new course that is being offered as an elective next year! If there is enough student interest, it will go ahead and yours truly just might be the teacher! ;)

Remember to check your Course website for updates on assignments and due dates.

Friday 27 January 2012

Jan.30th-Feb.3rd

Welcome back everybody! I hope your final exams went well and that you're ready to start a new semester.

I have created this blog as way to stay better connected with both you and your parents. This is my main website where I'll post general information and reminders about important dates and events at school. On the top-right hand side you'll find links to each of my individual courses. I'll do my best to update these each week with the topics we'll be studying. I'll also include study tips for upcoming quizzes/tests, reminders about homework and assignments, information about projects, due dates and more. If you have any questions or concerns about assignments or tests, please feel free to email me at anytime.
I look forward to teaching you all this semester! Have a great first week back!

-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 22 January 2012

Jan. 23rd - 27th

Congratulations Everyone!

You've made it! Classes for the Gr.10-12's are now finished for the semester and classes for the Gr.8-9's finish on Wednesday. It's hard to believe Semester I is practically over! Exams begin this week for those who have finals. Please study hard and do the best that you can. Please check your course website one last time for any final messages, tips, or reminders!

Please remember to return your textbooks and pick up any marked assignments if you haven't done so already. I'll be in my classroom all week if you need to stop by to ask me any questions. I'll be marking and will have your final marks posted as soon as possible. Please stop by to check them and say Hello at any time :)

I've enjoyed teaching you all these past 4 and a half months. I wish you the very best of luck with your final exams and in your future classes!

Take care,
-Ms.Sundin

Saturday 14 January 2012

Jan.16-20th

Congratulations everyone...you're almost finished Semester I! This is the LAST week of classes for the Gr.10-12 students before final exams, and the last full week of classes for the Gr.8 and 9 students. Classes for Gr.8 and 9's end on Wednesday January 25th. The new semester starts on January 30th.

This of course means it is your last week to get any missing work handed in. Friday will be my cut off day for any late/missing assignments. Please check your course websites for important information on due dates and exams.

I've enjoyed teaching you all this semester and wish you all the best in Semester II!

-Ms.Sundin

Sunday 8 January 2012

January 9 - 13th

Hi Everyone,
This is our first full week back after the break. The only major thing happening at school this week is Course Selection. The counselors will be coming around to different classrooms this week to give you your course selection forms for your classes next year. This is a really important event so start thinking about it now if you haven't already. This is especially true for Gr.10 and 11 students, who will be in Gr.11 and 12 next year. You need to ensure that you have the proper courses and credits when you graduate to qualify for your desired post-secondary programs. Take a look at the Course Selection Guide on the LA Matheson webpage, so that you have a better idea of what courses are being offered when the counselors come around!

We are entering the final two weeks for Gr.10-12 students so be sure to check your course/class websites for important assignment information and due dates!

Have a great week!

Monday 2 January 2012

January 3rd - 6th

Happy New Year Everyone and Welcome Back! It's hard to believe it is already 2012! I hope you all had a great holiday and 'mental health break' from school. There are only 3 weeks left in the semester, which means there is still a lot yet to get done in very little time. HOWEVER, the good news is the light is finally shining at the end of the tunnel! You're almost done!!!

Classes for the Gr.10-12's end on Friday January 20th, with classes for the Gr.8 & 9's extending until Wednesday January 25th. January 26 & 27 there are no classes while us teachers finalize marks and prepare for the new semester to start on Monday January 30th.

Please be sure to get all of your work done and any missing/late work handed in ASAP or I will not have time to mark them! It is not fair that I should have to mark 3 month-old assignments while I'm trying to mark your recent assignments AND finalize your end of semester marks AND prepare for the new semester too! Please be fair to yourself and your teacher and get your work in NOW.

Please check the LA Matheson webpage for details on your final exam dates.

Have a great first week back!
