Dec.12-16th

5 more days until Winter Break everyone! This will be a busy but also fun-filled week, as there are a lot of festivities happening. I've posted the main events happening this week to the left, but notably, is what is happening on Friday. First, on Friday morning there will be a Pancake Breakfast that you should definitely come and check out. Your wonderful teacher (that's right moi :P) will be getting up extra early to come and help make pancakes for you! There will be lots of goodies, plus pictures with Santa, so do get up and come to school earlier. Best of all, it's all free! This happens every year and is always a lot of fun. This year will be no exception!
In class on the last day, and maybe even starting Thursday, depending on how much work we get done, we will watch a Christmas movie in class. Be sure to check out your course websites to vote on which movie you would like to see. I will be polling the class and the movie with the most votes obviously will win! Friday is also an early dismissal day so that we can attend the annual Christmas assembly, which starts at 1:30pm! Have a great week everyone and a very Merry Christmas!!!

Nov. 28- Dec. 2

Hi Everyone,

Well the countdown is really on now. Only 15 days until the break- that is just 3 weeks left!! Hang in there! :)
This week there are a few events happening at school. There is both a toy drive and a food drive happening at school. Stay tuned for announcements about the details of these, but you know the drill...bring non-perishable food items, or toys that can be donated to children in need this holiday season. Also, my Grade 12 Entrepreneurship students will begin selling their student-company products this week at lunch time in the cafeteria. They are selling customized school hoodies and water bottles. Watch for posters and TV ads, as well as listen for daily announcements for more information! You may be interested!

Be sure to wear your Matheson clothing on Monday and check your course websites, as per usual ;)

Have a good week!

Week of Nov.21-25

Hi Everybody,

This week at school there is a Zinc Drive, where all Period 1 classes are collecting old batteries. Most people are completely unaware that without enough zinc in our diet, we can die. In fact, over 400,000 people die each year because of zinc deficiencies. That is why the Global Issues club is collecting batteries to donate to organizations like Unicef. The zinc in old batteries can be extracted to make zinc tablets to supplement the diet. Please have a look around your house for any old batteries and bring them to school. Not only will you be helping save lives, but you will also be helping the environment because you are recycling as well! It's a win-win situation, so please do your part!

Now, onto some good news! The countdown to the Winter Break has begun! In looking at the calendar I realized that there are only 20 school days left until Christmas, or whatever holiday you might celebrate! Sweet! :D
That is also only 20 days left to get your work done, so study hard. The reward isn't far off!

Please remember to check your course website for information on the upcoming week.

Have a great week!

-Ms.Sundin

Week 10- Nov. 7- Nov.10

Greetings All,

This week will be a shorter week due to the Remembrance Day holiday. There will be assemblies held in Period 2 on Thursday November 10th. I ask you to remember that this is a SOMBER occasion where we pay tribute to the fallen soldiers who risked everything for our freedom. This means you must be quiet, serious, and respectful, not unlike how you would behave at a funeral. It is not like other assemblies where it is ok to laugh and talk with your friends. Please remember this....lest we forget.

There are also Provincial Exam rewrites this Monday and Tuesday for those who this applies to.

As we are now halfway through the semester there is A LOT going on in terms of assignments, so please check your course website to stay on top of what is happening in your class!

Have a nice short week!

See you in class.

Week 9- Oct. 31- Nov. 4

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I hope to see you dressed up in your costumes on Monday at school! Please remember what I said last week about masks, and appropriate costumes. That being said, you can still have a lot of fun!

This week at school the Gr.9's have their 'Take Our Kids to Work' day on Wednesday November 2nd, which is a National program through the Career Center. Gr.9's are expected to be out of school that day to learn about the work world and perhaps get a better idea of life after school, not to mention what their parents do all day! If students cannot attend their parents' workplace, they may go to that of a family friend, neighbor, relative, or even go along with one of their classmates, as long as they have the proper permissions required! Consent forms are due on Monday October 31st by 3pm at the office. Otherwise students can't go and must go to their regular classes as usual.

A number of my classes have a lot of due dates fast approaching so be sure to check your course website for more information!

Have a great week!

Week 8- Oct.24-28th

Hi Everybody!
This week there aren't any major school events going on to speak of, except it is important to note that there will NOT be an early dismissal on Oct.26th.

Since it is the last week of October, you are probably thinking about your Halloween costumes! You will be allowed to wear your Halloween costume at school next Monday the 31st, however, please keep in mind the Halloween costumes must still be school appropriate. This means no offensive language on apparell, nothing that could interpreted as racist, nothing that shows too much skin, etc. This also includes masks. If your costume includes a mask you will have to wear it on your head (kind of defeats the purpose I know), but this is due to school safety. We must be able to identify our students for security reasons, so please keep these rules in mind. With all of that being said, there are tons of costume ideas that you can have fun with! And yes, of course I will be dressing up as well! :)
Have a good week everybody!

Note to Parents/Guardians: if you have any concerns about your son or daughter's progress at school, please don't hesitate to call or email your child's classroom teacher. Despite the current job action, we are happy to answer any questions you may have or discuss your child's progress. In my case, email is preferred, as it is much easier for me to respond this way during the school day.
Thank you for your understanding.

Back to School

Welcome back everybody! It's that time of year again! I hope you're all well rested and ready to start a new semester.
I have created this blog as way to stay better connected with both you and your parents. This is my main website where I'll post general information and reminders, about important dates and events at school. On the right hand side you'll find links to each of my individual courses. I'll do my best to update these each week with the topics we'll be studying. I'll also include study tips for upcoming quizzes/tests, reminders about homework and assignments, information about projects, due dates and more. If you have any questions or concerns about assignments or tests, please feel free to email me at anytime.

I look forward to teaching all of you and think it's going to be a great semester!
